Wonderlands UK Graphic Novel Expo returns to Sunderland!

The unique Wonderlands UK Graphic Novel Expo took place in May 2015 and 2016. And now, building on its success, it’s returning for a third year! This year it’s on 3rd June, running from 10am to 5pm. This free one-day event is in the University of Sunderland’s CitySpace building on Chester Road, attended by a range of graphic novel creators in an exciting programme of events. It will feature a selection of talks, panels and workshops, a Publishers Hall of artists, writers, small press and dealers.

11.20 – 12.10 40 years of 2000AD. John Wagner, Jeff Anderson, Bryan Talbot and John Higgins. Chaired by Stacey Whittle

12.20 – 13.10   Celebrating Myriad Graphic Novels. Corinne Pearlman, Paula Knight, Jade Sarsen, Darryl Cunningham

13.20 – 14.10  The Art of John Higgins Presentation

14.20 – 15. 20  Martin Rowson. Introduced by Mel Gibson

11:30-12:25 – ACE – Lydia Wysocki talks about the projects of Applied Comics Etc and the power of the comics medium 

12:30-13:25 – Making Funny Comics – Nigel Auchterlounie

13:30-14:20 – Step Into Clockwork Watch, An Immersive Steampunk Storyworld – Yomi Ayeni gives a masterclass in creating an immersive and participatory storyworld for a graphic novel set in the make believe universe of Steampunk, but brought to life on the streets of London

14:30-15:25 – How to Draw Comics – Nigel Dobbyn

15:30-16:25 – Comic storytelling – Workshop by Jeff Anderson

Open Space Workshop Area

10:00 – 16:00 – Lee Robinson – Drop-in Comics with Lee Robinson

All the events are free, but space in the workshops is limited. If you’d like to attend, you can book places on the Workshop page of the website, here. Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
